Green Week Debate

  • Graduates Memorial Building Trinity Collage Dublin (map)

The planet is dying. As coasts erode and temperatures rise, we can feel the ground beneath our feet screaming in pain. Activists tell us that this is not a drill - that if we do not act now, an extinction-level event will be upon us.

But what shape should this action take? Will the climate crisis be solved through collective efforts, or is it beholden on all of us to make the change we want to see? Where does culpability for this dire phenomenon lie - with the individual, or with society? Can we make change on our own, or do we need the structures of the world to fundamentally change before the environment can begin to heal?

In a very special event, the Hist partners with TCD Botanical Society, TCD Global Development Society, and TCD Young Greens for a sustainability debate on a crowd-sourced motion. This Green Week, join some of Trinity’s best student speakers, alongside contemporary political figures, as they unpick a question at the heart of our planet’s future.

And if that isn’t enough fun, join us as we venture out to Workman’s for afters! Discussing the death of everything we’ve ever known is always more fun in a nightclub.

The GMB. 7.30 PM. Wednesday the 19th of February. We’re all in this together.
